Glitch, Please: How video works – and Why it sometimes doesn’t

Modern video distribution systems are so complex they are almost indistinguishable from magic; but they shouldn’t require you to become a video wizard in order to use them. In this presentation we are going to take a journey inside our equipment and discover how SDI and HDMI work in order to understand their similarities and differences, strengths and weaknesses, and learn how and why good signals go bad. A variety of live feats of video engineering will be attempted in order to demonstrate just how robust (or not) these systems are, despite the massive amount of bandwidth involved, in order to get to the heart of what makes our systems work, and why so many manufacturers are hoping we transition to network based video sooner rather than later.
