David Butler is a software designer, media server programmer and creative technologist with over 12 years’ experience in video entertainment technology. He is VP Control Technologies at Seismiq, leading design and development of next-generation control and video technology products. He has a career-long interest in control protocols/technologies and system integration, with an approach that emphasises realising and enhancing creative workflows and creating environments for effective collaboration between disciplines and departments.
He began his career as a special projects consultant at Green Hippo, designing, creating and supporting product features for customers including Disney Parks and the Eurovision Song Contest. He was also part of the team at Lux Machina working on virtual production systems used on TV and film projects such as House of the Dragon, Barbie and Masters of the Air. He additionally works as a video programmer and associate designer across theatre, opera, TV/film and events with recent credits including Hamlet Hail To The Thief (Factory International/RSC), Breaking the Waves (Houston Grand Opera), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (RSC), Passing Strange (Young Vic), Disney: The Castle (Riyadh Season 2023) and Coppelia (Scottish Ballet).
